This week in Kenya saw more than politics, here are a few briefs about issues facing Kenyans. Every week on Saturday I’ll go threw the weekly news stories and issues taking place in Kenya. Saturday’s round up with have only news not pop-culture articles or articles about pieces that degrade anyone.
Is There a Serial Killer In Nakuru County?
Over the last two weeks 3 women have been murdered, robbed, raped and their bodies set on fire. In the sub-county of Mawanga residents are living in fear. These attacks have even taken place during the daytime. One of the slain was the 25 year old daughter of Bishop Jotham Opicho she was killed inside of home in the afternoon. Another 36 year old mother was killed in front of her 3 year old son. There is an ongoing investigation. Women should remain on high alert even when inside of their homes.
A Young Woman Has Starting Making Films to Highlight Life of Maasai Women
Laissa Malih from the Laikipia-Maasai tribe whom is the CEO of the Maasai Cultural Heritage organization. She made a 2019 documentary film entitled ‘River of Brown Water’. She’ now producing a film entitled ‘My FGM Story’. She is the first young woman from her community and she says she is striving to make awareness of her life and the lives of other young women.
Deputy Chief Justice Mwilu Issues Warning To Families Marrying Off Children Under 18
Mwilu reiterates the statue of the law, under ‘The Children’s Act of 2006” it’s a criminal offense to marry anyone under the age of 18. She warns those using culture as an excuse that it will not indeed save them from prosecution. She goes onto say that child marriages are defilement and a sexual offense. Also adding those that practice female genital mutilation are violating section 14 of that same Children’s Act.
In Politics Across Kenya Here Is What This Week Brought
Political Rally Violence - There was some clashes & Chaos in Mandera before the start of the Azimio rally. The groups of individuals threw rocks at one another. No word of any injuries at this time.
Former Impeached Governor of Nairobi Mike Sonko has filed a complaint with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Dispute Resolution. He is protesting his inability to get on the ballet in August.
Raila receives more news coverage then Rutu - The media council of Kenya that monitors the media and research reports on media performance on election campaign coverage (reporting) says Raila received 61.2 % more coverage then DP Ruto’s 38.2 percent of coverage.
George Wajackoyah of the Roots party & his running mate Justina Wamae came in 3rd with only 0.54 percent coverage.
Al-Shabaab militants Stop A Bus From Nairobi to Mandera
Al-Shabaab stopped a bus looking for non-locals on the bus for more than 2 hours. After they were unable to find non-locals on the bus they gave a lengthy speech in their native Somali language (which most couldn’t understand). There were some of the terrorists also hiding in the bushes.
The security persons are directed to not allow any non-locals to travel along B9 road between Kotulo and Elwak Towns. They also stopped a taxi driver as well, No reports of any injuries.
Covid-19 Cases On The Rise Again, With An Increased 14.3 Percent New Cases
502 people tested positive on Friday June 24, 2022. The death toll has not increased & remains at 5,651. The total number of cases is now at 331,539. There is about 31.6 percent fully vaccinated adults with 18.6 million vaccine doses administered. hh
